ALL ABOUT THE PHILLIPINES

Angela, our English assistant in the school, gave us the opportunity to know curiosities and aspects about her country, The Philippines.
During the month of March, she taught classes in 4th, 5th and 6th about general facts in The Phillipines, we learnt how to make "Graham balls" and we ate them, we knew different traditional games there and we played them in the playground. We had lots of fun.

Here I leave you some pictures about what we did with her!!

Listening to Angela explaining lots of interesting facts about her country, The Phillipines

Working in class making the recipe Angela prepared for us, "Graham Balls", yummy!!

Making posters in groups about The Phillipines to talk about them in the last session of this fantastic project. It's an interesting way to learn.

Playing filipino games in the playground after being worked in the class in groups of five students.

Future "GOING TO"

Welcome again!! We are almost finishing this academic year. Some days ago we started the last unit and here you are how to create sentences using the future GOING TO

SUBJECT + VERB TO BE (PRESENT TENSE) + GOING TO + INFINITIVE

I AM GOING TO STUDY ENGLISH THIS AFTERNOON

HE IS GOING TO VISIT LONDON NEXT SUMMER

If it is negative, the verb TO BE will be in the negative form. Easy!

SUBJECT + VERB TO BE (NEGATIVE FORM) + GOING TO + INFINITIVE

SHE ISN'T GOING TO EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT TONIGHT

THEY AREN'T GOING TO DRINK COKE AT THE PARTY, THEY DON'T LIKE IT

Remember!! When making questions, we have to change the order in the sentence. Verb to be will go before the subject:

VERB TO BE (PRESENT TENSE) + SUBJECT + GOING TO + INFINITIVE?

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO THIS AFTERNOON?

WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO GO NEXT SUMMER?

I am also going to advise you to have a look to this interesting web page to work the future tense with some exercises. Try to work on them!!!

Unit 5 contents

Remember and don't forget contents in Unit 5...

SUBJECT + HAVE TO + INFINITIVE

express OBLIGATION

We use the verb do to make the negative and the interrogative form.

A: You have to do your homework.
N: You don't have to shout in class.
I: Do I have to study English?
S:
A: Yes, you do.

A: He has to go to the doctor.
N: He doesn't have to hit anyone.
I: Does he have to play basket this afternoon?
S:
A: No, he doesn't.

ASKING FOR AND GIVING OPINIONS

WHAT'S + SUBJECT (in singular) + LIKE?

WHAT ARE + SUBJECT (in plural) + LIKE?

e.g.

- What's English like in your school?  It's fantastic, we learn a lot.

- What are the students like in your school? They are great, they are really nice.

Now, you have to practice as much as possible, writing different ANISAS using the verb HAVE TO and different questions askig for opinions about many things.

Adverbs of frequency

Remember the adverbs of frequency we've studied in class and how we use them.

Subject + Adverb of Frequency + Verb

Exemples:

I always go to school at 9 o'clock.
He never wears a uniform.
She sometimes eats chocolate.
We usually play football in the playground.

Exception!!!!

When we use the verb to BE, the adverb of frequency goes after the verb.

Subject + Verb to BE + Adverb of Frequency

Exemples:

I'm always happy.
She's never at home.
He's sometimes sad.
They're usually tired.

Practise a little more with these exercises online about the adverbs of frequency.

Present Continuous vs Present Simple

Remember the uses for the PRESENT SIMPLE and the PRESENT CONTINUOUS

When do we have to use one or the other?

Present Simple

We are studying the Present Simple in Unit 2. We use the PRESENT SIMPLE to talk about:
- routines,
- habits,
- general facts.

I leave you how to do it with some verbs as an example. You can change these verbs for any regular verb, such as play, eat, drink, visit, do, etc. Pay attention we need the verb DO to create the negative and the interrogative form, and to make the short answers as well.

    Verb WORK (trabajar)

     Verb GO (ir)

      Verb LIVE (vivir)

Here you are some rules to form the 3rd singular person (he/she/it) in a correct way

Let's practise the Present Simple with some exercises

I leave you this video to watch an explanation about Present Simple, enjoy it!!
