Future "GOING TO"

Welcome again!! We are almost finishing this academic year. Some days ago we started the last unit and here you are how to create sentences using the future GOING TO

SUBJECT + VERB TO BE (PRESENT TENSE) + GOING TO + INFINITIVE

I AM GOING TO STUDY ENGLISH THIS AFTERNOON

HE IS GOING TO VISIT LONDON NEXT SUMMER

If it is negative, the verb TO BE will be in the negative form. Easy!

SUBJECT + VERB TO BE (NEGATIVE FORM) + GOING TO + INFINITIVE

SHE ISN'T GOING TO EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT TONIGHT

THEY AREN'T GOING TO DRINK COKE AT THE PARTY, THEY DON'T LIKE IT

Remember!! When making questions, we have to change the order in the sentence. Verb to be will go before the subject:

VERB TO BE (PRESENT TENSE) + SUBJECT + GOING TO + INFINITIVE?

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO THIS AFTERNOON?

WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO GO NEXT SUMMER?

I am also going to advise you to have a look to this interesting web page to work the future tense with some exercises. Try to work on them!!!

PAST SIMPLE VERB TO BE (ser / estar)

You can practise this verb by doing some exercises. Come on!!

Unit 5 contents

Remember and don't forget contents in Unit 5...

SUBJECT + HAVE TO + INFINITIVE

express OBLIGATION

We use the verb do to make the negative and the interrogative form.

A: You have to do your homework.
N: You don't have to shout in class.
I: Do I have to study English?
S:
A: Yes, you do.

A: He has to go to the doctor.
N: He doesn't have to hit anyone.
I: Does he have to play basket this afternoon?
S:
A: No, he doesn't.

ASKING FOR AND GIVING OPINIONS

WHAT'S + SUBJECT (in singular) + LIKE?

WHAT ARE + SUBJECT (in plural) + LIKE?

e.g.

- What's English like in your school?  It's fantastic, we learn a lot.

- What are the students like in your school? They are great, they are really nice.

Now, you have to practice as much as possible, writing different ANISAS using the verb HAVE TO and different questions askig for opinions about many things.

Vocabulary UNIT 5 for the exam

And we are studying Unit 5 right now so here you have the new vocabulary to study for the exam we will have next week.

Verb THERE IS/THERE ARE (haber)

and... remember!!! In the singular, we use a/an before the noun:

A: There is a keyring on the table / There is an apple in the box.
N: There isn't a keyring on the table / There isn't an apple in the box.
I: Is there a keyring on the table? / Is there an apple in the box?
S
A: Yes, there is/No, there isn't.

and in the plural, we use SOME for the affirmative sentences and ANY for the negative and interrogative sentences:

A: There are some magnets on the fridge.
N: There aren't any magnets on the fridge.
I: Are there any magnets on the fridge?
S
A: Yes, there are/No, there aren't.
